Since installin SP2 - which I had no problem with
installing - System Restore is hung. I shut it off,
restored last know good state, etc. It is still hung.
Late bulletin - Two of my friends who just loaded SP2 are
having the same, "hung app," issue with System Restore.
Please advise.
Is the system otherwise working properly? No other issues or
problems, or at least none that did not already exist prior to the
installation of SP2?
If that is the case then open Control Panel - System - System Restore
and select the check box to "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
Click on Apply and OK as needed to exit.
Shut down and restart the system.
Go back in again and clear the "turn off System Restore......"
checkbox. Again click on Apply and OK as needed to exit.
Shut down and restart once more.
Now to test the functioning of System Restore:
1. Create a new desktop shortcut (to anything).
2. Create a manual System Restore point.
3. Delete the shortcut you created in step 1.
4. Shut down and restart the computer.
5. Use System Restore to restore back to the restore point you
created in step 2.
The deleted shortcut should reappear.
WARNING: Shutting off System Restore will result in all existing
System Restore points being lost. However there is no way that I am
aware of that a non-functioning system restore can be repaired so that
the old restore points will become usable.
Good luck
