anyone got any ideas apart from xp reload which ive
already tried

I'm having the exact same problem right now with Windows
XP Home. This has been a probelm for me for several
months, and I am just now trying to do something about
it. I suspect that I inadvertantly deleted the driver
when cleaning my registry at some point.

Any ideas how I find and reinstall that file or driver?

Go to Run and type ; sfc /scannow (note the space between c and/)
Assuming that you have a XP cd , insert in the cd rom when prompted. Jym
