System Restore in XP Pro doesn't work

Please help! I cannot create a system restore point, nor is System Retore
creating any automatically. I tried rebooting my system, using the
check/uncheck box in system properties, using the "Run" line, and trying to
run System Restore in Safe Mode. I also tried copying the "framedyn.dll"
from the \windows\system32\wbem directory to the Windows\system 32 directory
(I don't know if it's supposed to be there or not. The only option I have
left that I know of is to reinstall Windows XP. Can anyone help?

Please post any error messages you receive when attempting to create a restore point.

Check Event Viewer for any errors also.
Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in the right pane to
sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the two arrows in the
upper right corner. This will copy the event information to the clipboard. Paste the
information for each of the two event here. This will help us in diagnosing the problem.

When I tried to create a restore point, I received the following error message:
System Restore is not able to create a restore point.
Please restart the computer, and then run System Restore again.

When I checked the Event Viewer, there were only "Information" events
related to "srservice." Those messages are as follows:

System Restore monitoring was disabled on all drives.
and
System Restore monitoring was enabled on all drives.

When I navigated to the windows\inf folder, I found that the
sr.inf file was missing. What now?
 
Hi,

It appears System Restore was disabled. In the System Restore setting stop SR from
monitoring drives other than the one Windows is installed on. Now check for the amount of
free space on the drive Windows is installed on and let me know. To do so, open My
Computer and right click on the drive Windows is installed on and select properties.

As for the sr.inf file being missing, if find the suspicious. Go to Start - Search and do
a search for sr.* If sr.inf is found, what is it's location? Also, does sr.sy_ or
sr.sys appear in the search?

After perfroming a search (sr.*), there were no sr.inf, sr.sy_, or sr.sys
files to be found.

I should have mentioned that after clicking on "All files and folder" in Search, Click on
More advanced options and put a check next to the first three options before doing the
search.

Also check to see if System Restore is monitoring any other drives.
 
I just reformatted my drive and performed a fresh install of XP. My problem
has
been solved. Thank you so much for your help!
 
Yup. And it fixed all my other problems as well. I haven't performed
a fresh install for a year and my computer was running super slow.
Now it's fresh and pristine--until, of course, I start adding all my
programs I just can't do without. Again, thank you for you guidance.
 
Glad to hear it. I have a few suggestions.

Create a restore point using System Restore.
Install and update a good antivirus program. Anything other that Norton or McAfee.
Install Spywareblaster, update it and protect everything.
Run Windows Update and install all Service Packs and critical updates.
Create a restore point.
Start installing your application one by one.
Create a restore point between each one, unless you know for a fact one will be created
for you.
Run each program and check for errors.

the top of the page it said "For systems that have Norton 2006 - 2007
applications installed click HERE." I have norton IS 2007 so I clicked on it
and thier instructions resolved the problem I have been working on for days.
I am VERY grateful for your help and hope that this reply may help others.
