Why would you want to disable System Restore?

just a sample. i caught a tough virus. could clean it by hand in system
folders and registry, and wasnt easy. but the little bastard had set a
system restore point. for a couple boots, hadnt i disabled s.r. befrehands,
i'd've been sick again...

Turning it off is a quick way to remove those 100 meaningless restore points
that won't self delete for 136 years. Additionally, it deletes all those
shadow copies of files, which unless you are attempting to restore
immediately after changing is another worthless feature. Hmm... let's
restore 1 of 34 files in that driver to it's previous version. That should
fix the problem. Or, maybe that restore point from 63 days ago.

Okay, more seriously, it quickly deletes everything so that you can change
the partition size to minimum without fighting restore points which will not
move and typically store at the opposite end of your disc space. Once done,
your turn it back on, but with settings closer to 3GB of space instead of
15% of your 500GB drive.
