System Restore - how to automatically create more "restore points" ?

Chris

Hi,

I just upgraded from a W98 system with GoBack on it. I now have WXT
system but the System Restore seems to create restore points usually
only once a day. I got used to GoBack automatically creating multiple
"restore points" throughout the day. Is it possible to increase the
frequency in which System Restore automatically creates restore
points?

Thank you.

System Restore is NOT GoBack. It does not make copies of all of your files and settings.
It only concerns itself with the Windows system and registry. But If you want to change
the interval between automatic Restore Point creation:

The Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

The STRING in the right pane:

RPGlobalInterval

The decimal value is set to 86400 (which is 24 hours). I'd assume if you set the decimal
value for that string to a lower number, that you would increase the frequency of
automatically creating System Checkpoint Restore Points. (I haven't done it)

Create a Restore Point before editing the Registry though, just In case Windows XP doesn't
like automatically creating Restore Points with more frequency.

Again, do not confuse System Restore with GoBack. If you screw up software or data files,
GoBack would Restore, but System Restore does NOT deal with those problems. If want to be
able to Restore all of your software, and data files, and Windows XP settings, then you
want GoBack:

Yes - but it starts using quite a lot of disk space.

SR is a *system* restore item, and once a day, plus immediately before
doing anything significant to system files such as a software install or
major registry edit, should be plenty.

But if you want, you need to use regedit and at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT
\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

change the values in the right pane of RPGlobalInterval and
RPSessionInterval (in seconds)

But note that it will wait for an otherwise quiet period before making a
point
