I have been keeping up with all of the updates. Recently I tried to update
my service pack, but with no sucess. I have been having some problems with
my "C" drive, so I would go back into time to fix the problem. Lately this
would not even work. So I did a system restore. Hoping that this could
resolve my problem. Much to my surprise, it did not work. It made my
problem worst. I can not access any file on my desktop since I restored my
computer. There was a error stating that I have a missing file that I am
missing is pconf. It states that I have been "access denied", everytime I try
to gain access. I can not even copy any folders or files due to this issue.
I can get on the internet. But I can not download anything to fix the
problem. While trying to find a way to resolve this issue. I recieved
another error. It states that "Microsoft Windows has encounted an Internal
Error. Your windows registry is currputed. Microsoft recommends a completed
system scan. Microsoft recommends http://RepairWindows.net to repair with a
free down load.". Once I find what the problem is, how am I to fix the
problem if I can even download a program that has been recommended by
microsoft? At times I wish I never even restored my "C" drive. I hope that
you can help me with this problem.

I would run a chkdsk . Right click you hard drive in windows explorer,
Select properties , then tools , then select error checking. You'll need to
reboot for the chkdsk to run.

Larry,
Thank you for responding so quickly. I have already tried this, and it will
not work. Any other ideas that could assist me would be great.

When you say it didn't work, what happened ? Do you ntsf file system of fat
system on your hard drive? If ntsf when you issue a chkdsk it run awhile then
tell you in order check the disk you must reboot.

I will run the program and tell you step by step, what is happening. When I
put a check mark in the space for "Automatic fix file system error", within a
few seconds a flag come on the screen stating that the files can only be
accessed by restarting Windows. I then pressed the yes button. I then
pressed the restart button for the computer. The computer then went through
the starting procedures. The NTFS volume is HP_PAVILION. It then went
through the CHKDSK vertification steps. Then it quickly showed the results
of the task. A flag appeared on the screen (sgtray), stating "An error
occurred while trying to open pconfig.". I then pressed the Yes button. I
then tried to open My Norton Clean Sweep program and a flag appeared stating
"unable to get App Paths registry key for CS32.EXE". I then tryed to open
the Help and Support program. A Microsoft Internet Explorer flag appeared
stating "Failed to load vendorprefs". I still can not open anything on my
desktop. I hope that this helped you picture some of the issues that I have.
Thanks again for yuor time.

Hello Bert,
Once I tried to get system recovery. I lost my history on restore. So now
I have no past , and the future doesn't look very good since my "D" drive
seems to not be able to recover.

The links you posted in your first made me wonder. I was unable to confirm
the references to Microsoft were genuine. Run your anti-virus and
anti-spyware programmes with updated definitions in safe mode.

Be careful using Cleansweep.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for the duration of the last boot and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I just recieved another flag while I am type to you . It states "Messanger

Critical System Error! The windows registry appears to be infected. Please
go to Universal Registry Infection cleaner at www.uric.net to scan and repair
the system registry"
While trying to scan and download the file that would correct, hopefully my
issue. A flag came up stating "Microsoft Internet Explorer. Internet
Exploroer was unable to open this Internet site. The requested site is
either unavailable or can not be found. Please try again." How am I to
download when the computer does not recognize the sites? I think I am
getting a little frustrated. PLease help...

I have noticed that I did not get any response from my last message. I
completed a full scan on my system, and no viruses where found. I did notice
that I am having a timing problem. I was thinking that this could be the
reason for my start up not recognizing some of the files. How do I reset the
timing of my system?
