System Restore Has Stopped Automatically Creating System Checkpoints at 24 Hour Intervals

For some reason System Restore has stopped automatically creating System Checkpoints. It
is turned on, and is set to use the Maximum amount of space for monitoring my C drive.
Yes, there is a great deal of unused disk space. I had used Disk Cleanup/ More
Options/System Restore Cleanup prior to the problem, only that one option, not any of the
other Disk Cleanup options. So, I have no earlier Restore Points to restore to, only the
ones which I have Manually created since.. The registry string:

RPGlobalInterval

for the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

has a value data of: 15180

System Restore will manually create Restore Points, and it will restore from them, and
undo the restores from them. But, it will no longer automatically create System
Checkpoints every 24 hours. I did not do a Windows Update prior to the problem, or not
install any hardware/drivers, and the only software that I installed was Kelly's
TaskbarRepairToolPlus!. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this? Please,
no useless replies from System Restore haters, saying that it is garbage. That is not
constructive.

Double check to see if "task Scheduler" is turned on.
Every so often task scheduler on my system gets turned off (Idon't know
why),when this happens auto checkpoints no longer work.

How much disk space is SR using to store restore points?

Yes, there is a great deal of unused disk space.

Is this true for all the drives/partitions SR monitors? Any monitored drive that falls
below 50mb's of free space will cause the deletion of all restore points.

Running Disk Cleanup with that option deletes all but the most recent restore points.

There is only one hard drive, the C drive being monitored, with no partitions, and there
are 25 GB free. The Task Scheduler Service is Started, and set at Automatic. None of the
trouble shooting at that web site seems to apply.

Hi,

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title “Source” at the top of the source name column in the right pane to
sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the two arrows in the
upper right corner. This will copy the event information to the clipboard. Paste the
information for each of the two event here.

There are no listings for "sr," only "srservice," and those are all notes for each of my
successful manually created restore points, nothing else. They are self-evident, and do
not need to be copied and pasted to this post.

CHECK "turn off system restore on all drives"; click Ok

--THIS WILL DELETE ALL SYSTEM RESTORE POINTS ALREADY CREATED---

repeat and UNCHECK that setting.

this should get things "reset" and working again.

Note: SR will not make a restore point unless the system is allowed to
idle. If you are the type that turns on the pc, works, and then turns it
off for the day, then SR will not have a chance to make any restore
points. you need to let it idle for about 30 mins.

you can force the idle task processing to take place, with this command
line:

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

I like to put this into a shortcut for easy access.

I was hoping the event log would be of help.

Go to Start - Run and type Services.msc then press enter. Look under the Status column for
any entries that read "Starting" rather than "Started".

Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD then press enter.
Type Net Start at the command prompt and press enter. Make sure that the Task Scheduler
and System Restore Service is up and running. Also look to see if iis is running. If so
let me know.
