System Restore Failure - any ideas?

I recently installed a new Maxtor 200 gb hard drive and coppied the files
from my old 30 mb drive using MaxBlast 4 software. Several weeks later I had
occasion to need the Restore function but got an error message that the
request had to be terminated and a report was sent to Microsoft. I have
tried to turn Restore off and on again, and all of the basic Restore tips in
the basic Windows mainenance help. I have also gone to the safe mode and run,
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe. All attempts ultimately give the
same message as found in the Event Viewer as follows: "Faulting application
rstrui.exe, version 5.1.2600.2188, faulting module srrstr.dll, version
5.1.2600.2188, fault address 0X00009826". I don't want to reinstall Windows
XP operation system and updates and reload everything again unless I really
have to. I might consider going without the Restore function first? I still
have the Backup utility. Any ideas???
