system restore external drive

I have on ocassion used an external drive to copy files onto my c:\. I
needed to restore to a prior restore point, but all of these state that it
can't restore because E: (the external drive) either was not included or was
excluded and that it can not restore. This happens whether or not the drive
is attached or not. It seems than the restore has a limited use. I did use
system restore in the past prior to attaching the external drive. Is this a
problem with sustem restore?

Turn off system restore on the external drive. System restore only needs to
be activated on the boot partition and on the partition where programs are
installed. System restore does not monitor data files so it should be
turned off on data only partitions/drives. It is not a backup means. See

Right click My Computer | Properties | System Restore. In there you can
turn off system restore on specific drives/partitions.

Ok, this is over my head, but makes sense as the external drive is my old
drive from a prior machine, so it has XP on it. But I don't know if it is
running or not, or how to turn it off. I boot off my current machine only.

But i have more detail. The error message going into restore a point only
says it can't change whatever happened to the E: drive after the point was
formed. So I think that error might not be what is causing the problem..
Also, it doesn't seem to matter which restore point I choose, even the most
recent. After rebooting, I get the message that it can't be restored...I
might have a different problem.

OEM, done recently, but only up to that point..... It is as if WordPerfect

I gave you the info on how to turn off System restore on the external drive,
and a link to a good page on system restore. It doesn't matter if the
external drive had XP on it, it's the issue of the current installation that
sees the external drive. Sorry I can't help you if you won't read the
information and follow it.

Hi,

I don't know of such a conflict involving WP. Do these same restore points
also fail in Safe Mode? You will find instruction on the following page.
