When I try to System Restore, I get : an unspecified error occurred during
System Restore. I'd re-install, but my computer didn't come with the CD (it's
from Best Buy). Can you please help me?

Thanks,
Andrew

I had the same thing and found that if I went to Control panel and clicked
on classic view you get system protection at the side. Click on and then
uncheck the boxes of the drives that have system restore. this empties the
cache. Then click it again adn create a new point, this will possibly have
it work again. I read in a PC magazine that if one restore point becomes
corrupted then they will NOT work adn this is the only way to resolce this.
Unfortunately it measn that you will not be able to use any of them until
youc reate new ones.

I don't get an error code, it just says an Unspecified error has occurred.

I have a HP e6400.

Billy,

I want a way to restore my computer to original settings, and if I do this I
won't have any way to do that. Or is there another way I can get it back to
factory settings (without the Vista CD)?

Please generate the following logs and screenshots for me, zip them up, and
email them to my address minus "offline."

Take a screenshot of your Disk Management snap-in showing your disks and
volumes.

Make the following registry change to generate a log file. Are you familiar
with editing the registry? If not I can provide more assistance.

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Asr,
create a new key called LogFileSetting

Under LogFileSetting, create a new DWORD value called EnableLogging.
Right-click that value, click Modify, and then enter 00000001 (hexadecimal)
or 1 (decimal)

Under LogFileSetting, create a new String value called LogPathName.
Right-click that value, click Modify, and then enter C:\asr.log

Now, reproduce the problem and send me the resulting asr.log file. When you
are done, delete the registry entry you created.
