When I try to set or go to a system restore point, I get the message that
rstrui.exe cannot find framedyn.dll, however, both of these files exist in
the same folder (C:\Windows\System32\restore). How do I fix this?

Copy the framedyn.dll file that is located in the C:Windows\System32\WBEM
directory and paste it into the C:\Windows\System32\restore directory,
choosing Yes if prompted re: Overwrite

Regards,

When I checked the WBEM folder, it only contained two other folders (SNMP and
XML) both of which were empty so I did search, found the file in
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and copied it into the restore directory.
All works OK now. Thank you very much.

Hi Vic,

Is Service Pack 2 installed on the system? The reason I ask is that this error
should have been resolved with SP2.

Hi Folks,
I had the same error folowing some change to my files at the end of October
which I was unaware of. Like you Vic my WBEM folder contained only 2 empty
folders and I suspect most of the contents had been moved to a newly created
folder SYSTEM32/DLLCACHE. I copied framedyn.dll from the cache folder to the
WBEM one and all worked ok. Any idea what should be in the WBEM folder and is
it ok to leave things as they are.

Hi Dan,

Here's some information on WBEM.

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a component of the Microsoft Windows
operating system and is the Microsoft implementation of Web-Based Enterprise
Management (WBEM). WBEM is an industry initiative to develop a standard
technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment.
You can use WMI to automate administrative tasks (such as editing the registry)
in an enterprise environment. You can use WMI in scripting languages that have
an engine on Windows and that handle Microsoft ActiveX objects. You can also use
the WMI Command-Line utility (Wmic.exe) to modify the Windows registry.

For additional information about WMI, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/wmi_start_page.asp

There's also a newsgroup for WBEM.

Hi Bert,
Interesting stuff if only I understood it. but thanks for the help. I ran
Easy Clean, just to see what was in my Registry and it showed a stack of
redundant entrys relating to WBEM files, mostly dlls which now exist in
SYSTEM32\dllcache.
Although my WBEM folder is empty all seems to be working fine so I guess it
must be OK
Thanhs for the help Dan L
