System Restore / Domain list

lier002Hello all,

I'm having some problems with System Restore..
When the window Restoring files appears.. it stops in the middle of the
Restore action. Only the message Couldn't restore appears, but does not say
why it couldn't restore. Is there a limit of restore actions. Is it possible
to restore daily?

I use the System Restore action to switch between two Forrests (and Domains)
at the logon screen. One is my companies network, the other for my education
Server 2003 domain.

Note: I have 20 GB of free diskspace on my XP Pro Laptop.

Has anybody a suggestion/ solution for one or both problems? (System restore
and switching between two forrests / domains at logon)

System restore files are corrupted probably.

Run the following command in the Run Command

Sysdm.cpl

Go to System Restore and check 'Turn off system restore"

This will erase all System Restore files.
If this your problem.

Good Luck

A much better method (it is built-in to Windows XP) to change between
Forests is Hardware Profiles.

1.) Create a Corporate profile with appropriate NIC properties.your
company's Forest.

2.) Create as Education profile with appropriate NIC properties.that
Forest.

Directly after POST, you will be presented with a boot menu, from which you
may select your
profile according to my location/needs.

On my personal laptop, for instance, I have the following hardware profiles:

Alone: NIC disabled
Home Net: NIC assigned a P2P address / subnet
Work Net: Obtain a DHCP address from Work server
Travel: NIC enabled but not configured -- if I happen to be
at a site and need quick access to their network, I can configure this
profile as needed.
