System Restore can't go, back

P

pete

Hi

I have a problem with my system restore. It seems I can make restore
point and they are also automatically made about every 4-7 days but
when ever I try to go back to a created point I am told after the
system reboots from the process it's "unable to restore" It worked in
the past it has only been the last while the it hasn't

Please keep it simple as the say I'm good looking but not very smart

Windows XP
Compaq Presario
2.7Ghz

Thanks

Peter

It's very likely that you have a corrupted restore point that is causing the problem. All of the SP restore points depend on each other when restoring. To fix this, you need to turn off SR on all drives and then turn SR back on. This will delete all of the current restore points and refresh everything. See the following website for more information.

Hi,

Experience has shown that System Restore just isn't a reliable utility.
Restore points are chained together so that if one is corrupt, they're
all no good. Your only option is either of the following:

Stop and restart System Restore by right-clicking My Computer =>
Properties => System Restore tab. Stop System Restore, restart the
computer, and go back and restart it. Unfortunately you will lose all
previous Restore points.

or ...

Go to Disk Cleanup in Start => Programs => System. Run it and click the
'More Options' tab. Click the 'Clean up' System Restore. This will
leave the last Restore Point, but you should create a Restore Point and
check that it works.

More reliable utilities are backup programs, ERUNT - an automatic
Registry backup (free), or a disk imaging program such as Acronis or
Norton Ghost (neither free). Google these if you want to try them.

Luck!

Hi Pete
I had the same problem, I found it to be related to Zone Alarm, once
I uninstalled ZA and installed Kerio, I was able to create and restore,
