I am extremely confused, I have Symantec Antivirus, which I just installed
.... and it keeps notifying me that I have two different viruses ... one is
the Trojan. Vundo and Download. Trojan...

I tried restoring my computer, but when I click on system restore it says
that "system restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on system
restore, contact your domain adminstrator" ... I am the adminstrator so I am
not sure why its off... and I am not sure how to turn it on ... and when and
if I can restore my system how do I backup things on my computer? Are the
things that are on the D drive the only things that can be backed up ?

I never got a XP cd with my computer, so I am not even sure how to reinstall
XP windows ...

Also I did burn 7 recovery cds ... but I am not sure how to use them

[1] Have you removEd the infestation(s)?

[2] When System Restore is turned OFF, all Restore Points get deleted. If
OFF from day one, none have been created to start with.

[3] Depends. All data can be backed up, but you may have to buy some
software. What is your hard drive setup? i.e., what shows when you click on
My Computer?

[4] It would help to know the name of the Manufacturer.[example- Dell, 0r
Hewlett Packard] The Model [ex.- Optiplex GX1000] And desktop or Laptop
[so we don,t have to look it up from the model number]

No I havent removed the infestations because it says Action taken: Clean
failed: Quarantine failed: Access denied.

I don't think its been off since day one, because I believe that I have used
system restore before... but I am not really sure.

To remove Vundo - go to this link and do the preparatory work:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Then follow the instructions here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Winfixer

Finish up with the general malware removal steps at the first link.

It is completely possible to retrieve your data either from within a
working Windows install or by using a rescue system such as Knoppix, a
Bart's PE or ERD Commander (expensive).

Since you say that you are not computer-literate - and it is a wise
person who knows their skill level - you may find it more efficient to
take your machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your
local version of BigStoreUSA). Removing Vundo and related malware can
be quite complex.

Malke

Like Malke said ... all of this to me seems pretty complex ... but instead of
taking my computer to a shop ... I ordered new recovery disks (because the
old ones I had burned had been deffective, I guess)

I did a recovery on the C drive ... instead of doing an Advanced recovery
(which I guess would get rid of things on my d drive as well, since right now
they are still there) ...

Were the viruses just on the C drive ... or was that something that wasnt
known? Do you guys think that I should go back and do an Advanced recovery
.... or should the recovery on the C drive be just fine? I scanned my C and D
drives for viruses now ... and so far nothing has come up ...
