system restore and restoration complete message keeps appearing

We did a system restore on an xp pro computer back to a previous date to fix
a video problem. The restore point worked great but now everytime the
computer boots it tells us that:
system restore and restoration complete
your computer has been sucessfully restore
if this restoration is.....
Anyways , yes it is good and no I don't want to undo it.
Is there anyway to stop the message from appearing after reboot. If I turn
off the system restore will it retain my restore point I am currently at?
Thanks in advance for your assistance with this question.

I don't know how to turn off that message, but yes, turning off system
restore will delete all current restore points. Using disk clean up
will remove all but the most recent one.

That is what is confusing about this message. If I turn off the restore
point or remove previous restores will it keep it the way it currently is or
go back to the way it was. As it is restored back to a week ago , removing
of the restore points will erase the current setup? It seems it hasn't
finished the restore or is waiting for confirmation the restore is correct.
I wish I could just turn off the message from appearing after reboot. Any
help with the message? I created a new restore point so maybe if I turn off
the restore it will have this one just in case.
A bit confusing why it keeps prompting the message after reboot.

I don't think turning off restore should affect the restore you have
already done. It appears the restore was successful. Sorry I don't
know why that message keeps appearing. Try a disk cleanup. This will
remove all but the most recent restore point. Open My Computer, right
click on the C: drive, choose properties, Disk Cleanup button, then the
More Options tab. Click the clean up button under System Restore.

If that doesn't remove the message, then the next step is turn off
System Restore by right clicking on My Computer, choose Properties,
System Restore Tab, "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Ok out.
The go back in and turn it back on.

Make sure you have a backup of all data you can't afford to loose. Not
that I expect you will loose any but you should always have a current
backup. It's not a matter of if you experience data loss, but a matter
of when.

I turn-off the system restore, re-booted etc. and it now comes up with the
same System Restoration Complete only its’ Wed 12/22. I shut down twice and
get the same message. Also, before the 2nd re-boot I check and the system
restore indicated it was in the off position.
My third re-boot I re-enabled the system restore and the same message as
above came up in the boot-up.
Maybe tomorrow when the date changes it may go away
Rather strange but can live with it. It was all to fix a problem with not
being able to set the video. Video was stuck at 640x480 after using a old
exteral monitor. It would not switch back to the correct settings no matter
how hard I tried.
Just another windows error. Always something.

Sorry it's not working yet. The only other thing I can think of is to
reinstall the system restore files.

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start/Run and type:
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"

Good luck and post back if things change.

It has made what is effectively a new restore point, that will put the
machine back as it was before you did the restore. And if the calendar
shows other points still around you can restore to those too if you
wish. But if all is now satisfactory and you will not want to unwind
the point or go back to one earlier than the point you used, then using
Disk Cleanup's More Options to delete all but the most recent point
(made after you did the restore) is probably sensible

Bert,

Thank you for taking the timme to respond. I did a system restore on an xp
pro computer back to repair a driver problem. The restore function worked
fine but now, everytime the computer boots, it displays the message "system
restore and restoration complete, your computer has been sucessfully restored
...." Unfortunately, I am unable to stop the message from appearing after
reboot. I have tried turning off the system restore and clearing the restore
points. Any advice regarding how to stop this message from displaying?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Please post any errors found in EventViewer.
Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Perform the following steps for Application and System.
Click the Source tab to sort by name, and then look for "sr" or
"srservice." Double-click each of these services, and then evaluate
the event description for any indication of the cause of the problem.
Post the EventID and Source of any related error.
