System resource exceeded

I am using Access 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1).
I have created an Access database with numerous union queries, and one
external link to a table on a SQL database.
On a laptop with 1.8GHz Pentium processor and 512MB RAM, the queries will
run successfully.
If the Access database is moved to a server, and the linked table associated
with a mirror SQL database (same table size), some of the queries fail, with
a dialog box titled "Microsoft Access" appearing containing the message
"System resource exceeded." This despite the server having significantly more
processor and RAM.

What are the potential causes of the "System resource exceeded" message?

Is Access installed on the server or are you running Access from a PC and
connecting to the database over a network?

System resources aren't always directly related to RAM. There's a small
portion of memory used for things like updating the screen graphics and other
internal things controlled by the OS. The laptop might not just be doing as
much as the PC on the network.

Also things like spyware and viruses can eat up system resource memory.

In addition to Jerry's answer, you're also missing two service packs. Try
updating your copy of Access and the JET database engine to the latest
available.

See items 2 (Verify that the latest operating system service pack is
installed), 3 (Verify that the latest Microsoft Jet service pack is
installed) and 9 (Verify that the latest service pack for your version of
Office is installed).
