system resource exceeded

When designing a query it handles 24 fields from 4 other queries; however,
when I try to add a field from a fifth query I get the message - system
resource exceeded. Is this a problem with Access or does this involve the
processor or RAM on my workstation?

Hi,

What kind of join is involved in your query? Intermediate data is
stored in a temp file and cannot exceed 2 Gig. The problem may be
something else, too.

One inner join to the same type field to each of the five attached queries.
Is there an easy way to see the size of the temp file to know whether that is
my problem or not? Yo said that it might be something else? The database is
stored on the common drive of a LAN. Could this have an affect on the
capability? Thank you for your help!

Hi,

The temp file is created as required, but if you fill 2Gig, that surely
requires some processing time ( > 3 minutes ) before getting the problem.
If you make a table from the first four queries and use that table, instead
of the four queries, does that works? having a table, rather than 4
queries, that reduces the required extra temporary storage requirements.

I don't remember for sure the name of the temporary file used by Jet,
but it was visible (was, because I am not sure it is still the case under
Jet 4.0), and, as memory serves, a dot-mdb, with temp (or tmp) in its name,
in the designated "temporary" folder for the PC.

Thanks again for all of your help! I get the error message in about 30 to 45
seconds. I will try some different ways to reduce the number of queries that
I am using at one time.
