The system was working ok. I tried to update the NVidia display driver from
installed v61.76 to 88.61 downloaded from Nvidia web site. The update did not
go well. I manually updated the driver. The display was ok. Now I cannot
shutdown or restart properly. It crashes and reboots. I get the following
error message.

Boot into safe mode and disable the driver or update the old driver..
some times the new driver may cause problems...the same thing happened
to me. and i stick with the old driver and everything is fine.

You should be getting some informaion in the BSOD saying this driver
which caused the problem...with some file name like xxxxx.sys. identify
which driver is causing problem and disable or update with a proper
driver..If you are not getting enough time to read the BSOD, in the
advanced startup choose disable automatic restart on system shutdown and
try to work out the problem.

Hope you have tried LNGC?

As I said reinstalling the original driver did not help. Now I have disabled the auto restart. I will try that.
What is LNGC. How do I try that. Pl. explain

do google and you can find out its the problem with your audio drivers.
check it out with http://www.esstech.com for latest drivers.

Google search did not give me any idea. But I figured out the problem. The
USB key board driver was the culprit. I uninstalled that driver. The problem
is gone. I did not get the BSOD when I rebooted. Thanks for your help.
