I ahve tried to defrag, it starts, then after about 2/3 minutes the system
re-boots, it tells me that there is an error, after sending the error report,
when looking at the error report, It tells me that a intel storeage driver
has an error and the wording for the error is; (IdeChnDr.sys) ant thoughts??
please.

It appears that one of the drivers you installed for the motherboard (the IDE
controller) is corrupt, and needs to be reinstalled. Going to start/run, and
typing devmgmt.msc will open device manager, and the Properties of your
system board should have that driver listed on the driver tab. If you locate
the device needing that driver:

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the device, Action menu,
"Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.

It's also possible your system came with a cd of the motherboard drivers.

Mark,

Yes very helpful, but, I have got to the action menu, there is no option for
uninstall, were do I find it please.........

If no device is highlighted in device manager's list of devices, the action
menu will not offer the uninstall option.

Mark, sorry my fault, have done as you have suggested, all OK, when set to
de-frag, it continues until about 19% then shuts down, now it doesn't show
that I need to report the problem as it did last time. Still a problem there.

Open My Computer, and rightclick the drive icon, then Properties. The Tools
tab will have an option to do "Error Checking. Let it do fix all errors. It
will ask for a restart.

Unfortunately the problem still persists, have done as you have suggested,
still unable to defrag without system shutting down same fault shows
(IdeChnDr.sys) any other thoughts ?
