"System Performance Advisory" popup

Whilst browsing the web a few months ago my computer picked up what I
think is a virus or it may be spyware. I'm not sure of the
definitions anyway.

Whenever I use my IE6 browser, I get a group of similar popups,
ranging from "System Performance Advisory", with a pathetic graphic of
an owl(??), to "Pacific Poker", to "IBM Via Voice".

They're very irritating. I've tried looking in the windows/programs
folder to delete the culprit, but I can't find anything.

Does anyone know how to remove the program that creates the popups?
Would uninstalling and then reinstalling IE6 help?
