Hi all,
My computer is very unstable : it frequently (2 or 3 times a day)
automatically reboot or simply shuts down.
In "System information' I can read that the system indicates 512 Mo whereas
the real value is 256 Mo.
How is it possible ? Can this be the cause of the system unstability ?
Thank you for yours answers.
Julien.

Most certainly bad RAM could cause your symptoms, although other
hardware components could be failing too. It certainly would be unusual
for Windows to report *more* RAM than is physically installed so
something is most definitely wrong. Here are some general hardware
troubleshooting steps:

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).

1st 256mb & XP dont get along very well,512 is min,1024 is fine...Either way,
simply power off pc,move the memory stick to another slot, start pc.If symtoms
remain as before, the memory is probably no good,if all is ok,then the memory
controller is probably at fault &/or board..To test memory,go
to:http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp Download & install to a MS-DOS
formatted floppy, then boot to floppy.I think it can run off a cd also.

Wow, Andrew. That is pretty garbled even for you. Take your medicine
like a good boy and go away. Troll.
