using Win XP Pro on Vaio laptop, NAV2002, totally up-to-
date on everything. Problem is that the computer will
lock-up totally, no keyboard or mouse function at all.
Have to depress power button to reboot. Happens
everyday, no matter what is running, or what I am doing.
I can find no consistancy in what programs are up, or how
long the computer has been used (could happen in first 5
minutes, or after a couple of hours).

Any ideas?

it is a Sony.

Sounds like a hardware problem. We had a user bring a Toshiba back from a
trip with very similar symptoms. It was power module shorting / arcing to
motherboard. Laptops do tend to get broken if not treated with care.
Recommend a trip to service center for evaluation.
