System keeps sending packets...packets of what?

Okay, this is beyond everything I can do at this point. I have
exhausted all my know-how :-(

Something keeps sending out packets when I am not working....I see
outbound traffic...ZoneAlarm doesn't catch it and SpyBot says
nothing...Norton ran in SafeMode (but gives the message Scan engine
returned an error 0x20000058).

Please help...what am I sending out? And does NetBios or Host for
Win32 have anything to do with it?

Hi,

When you say that you are sending outbound packets .. do
you mean that ZoneAlarm indicators are going up and down ?

Even if you are not using the Internet directly you will
still get a little background chit-chat happening (Time
Service, Windows Update ...) all sorts of little
background processes pop out to the Internet and make
various checks.

The processes you mentioned are quite common (esp. Hosts)
and do not indicate a problem.
