System Hibernation Failed

I keep getting the following error message:

System Hibernation Failed
The device driver for the ‘Agere Systems AC’97 Modem’ device is preventing
the machine from entering hibernation. Please close all applications and try
again. If the problem persists, you may need to update the driver.

I recently updated the driver and also updated with windows xp service pack
2 - didn't solve the problem.
ANy suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am having the same problem. I bought a HP Pavilion Notebook a month
ago, and it will not go into standby or hibernation - I keep getting
the same error message that you got (about updating the device driver
for the Ac'97 Agere modem). Phone support with HP just left me hanging
after an hour with them trying different things. They said they would
research it and get back to me - that was a week ago. So I'm looking
for others who are having the problem - and I'm wondering if you've
resolved it. I would appreciate any insights to resolving this.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Searching outher forums, I found the solution that fixed my problem. I
you have an older version of Quicken software installed on your machine
there is a modem driver engaged for updates that prevent
standby/shutdown of a machine. Here are links that discussed th
problem, then detailed the solution:
