System Hangs/Not Responding/Checking Project Files

hey Guys....

This is very serious.
I am working on a project and halfway through previous hours of intense work
put in, the system will always hang/freezes or NOT RESPONDING! This is
definately very annoying!
When the crash is restored which i am forced to shut down the software, the
starting of the movie maker while it checks for "CHECKING PROJECT FILES"
takes forever! sometimes up to half an hour!

Why is this happening?
Any one please SOS as i have only worked 20% of the project which will be
due soon!
