System suddenly freezes. Screen stays on, mouse and keyboard locked.
Finally reformated drive and completely reloaded XP Pro. w/ SP2. All
updates installed thereafter. Problem did not go away. Must reboot with power
button.
All help appreciated.

System Halts (freezes) could be:
Defective Memory
Inadequate Power Supply
Heat due to accumulated dust or defective fans.
Hardware conflicts (BIOS settings)
** Without hardware specs, it's hard to help guide you to
a specific area to diagnose.

YOu need to run an entire system scan. It would seem there is a hardware
which is going bad most likely your Hard drive. Get in touch with your system
manufacturer and ask steps on how to do a system scan.
