Please help.
I am trying to get a friend's laptop to startup without
any luck.I think this is going to be a huge problem.
I am getting the message - "Windows can't startup because
following file is missing or corrupt" - \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
\CONFIG\SYSTEM.
When I try to repair using repair console after running
the Windows XP setup disk, it asks to select volume - e.g
1: c:\windows. When I do this - nothing happens at all. It
just halts. Any advice would be great - thanks.

Hi

Try here:

Thanks for this advice but unfortunately, I don't think an
Admin account was created with the original install so I
don't get asked for an admin password. When asked to
select the windows installation to be repaired, I do not
get any further than this point. I'm not sure how I can
get around this.

Type 1, then enter. When asked for the administrator
password just press enter - you should get to the console
if no administrator acct has been set up.
Good luck !!
