System Failure

I have a HP 753, with Windows XP. As of late my system
goes through a shut down phase. A counter appears in a
window and the message says "System shuting down by NT
Authority. It also says, "Windows Remote Procedure and
RPC Service Terminate. After the counter reaches zero the
systems shuts down, and then starts up again, only to
repeat this procedure over and over again.

If any one knows what I can do please contact me.

Hi Mike:

You don't mention if this happens while on line or not.
Since I got the same message while on line, I will go
that route. My laptop had the Blaster virus. It didnt
have an AV on it cause didn't plan on using on line.
Another machine I worked on also had a Trojan and gave
the same message. If you do have the blaster virus, up
date your AV defs. and check with your venders site for a
fix. I run Nortons and it can't fix blaster virus, I
needed to go to the site and down load a fix.

Tiresome references to Blaster Worm. I have a client with the same problem. Win98 on Compaq Presario, upgraded to Windows XP Home. Ran OK for a while, now has the RPC problem. Did HAVE Blaster, but fixed (I thought) - - up-to-date McAfee, Symantec Blaster removal run, Run key MSblast.exe removed, Virus scan run to no hits. No sign of MSblast.exe, no running process.

Ran "services.msc /s", reset RPC recovery properties to 1st-restart service, 2nd same, third, restart system. Got opportunity to send several "The system has recovered from a serious error" reports off to Microsoft. Generic reply is driver issue. Only seems to happen when on-line.

One commonality I've seen is another guy with same issue, running a 3rd party firewall.

I'm now checking on various anti-virus sites for another possible work/virus that might cause a system to exhibit this type of behaviour. Any ideas?

Sounds like you hav Blaster Worm and or Welchia virus

download fix from Norton then patch from Msft
