System exception : access violation message

F

Frank

Dear all,

After an installation of WinXP with Frontpage I get a
message in Forntpage saying ; "System exception : access
violation".
The message appears after I chose a template from the
template wizzard and then click on any of the htm pages.
Frontpage then closes down and therefore I am unable to
create anything.
I tried so far to repair it with the MS tools and
deinstalled and re-installed the FrontPage software but
the message is coming up again and again.
Does anybody knwo hwo to cure this ?

cheers Frank

Have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:

1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
- Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and/or %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
- also clear your IE TIF folder if you don't do so regularly
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file hidden file CMDUI.PRF
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\State
4) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
5) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
