Several times every day I get a warning like the one posted below. The path
indicated is always the same ie. SDDMI2. I cannot find anything relating to
that description on my PC. Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be.

Hi CE,

This problem seems to be isolated to new Dell computer systems.

Go to Start > Right click on My Computer and select Properties from the
resulting menu.

Click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager tab.

As soon you open up Device Manager, do you see the SDDMI2 hardware listed in
the "Other" category? If so, does it have a question mark or exclamation
mark icon? If it does, right click on SDDMI2 and select Uninstall. Restart
your computer. You will probably not get a dialog for New Hardware Found,
nor will it be in Device Manager anymore.

Thanks, Dean-Dean for your prompt response. There is no "Other" category in
my PC's Device Manager. Couldn't find SDDMI2 in any other category in the
Device Mgr.
Any other thoughts?

Hi,

Is your computer a Dell? If so, the problem of the "SDDMI2" hardware listed
in Device Manager may have been resolved for you, but it still might be
somewhere in the Windows registry, for which I have no remedy, offhand. I
don't believe there's a real driver file for SDDMI2, but some quirk in some
Dells has it show up in Device Manager, and, for some, causes the Add New
Hardware Wizard to show up at every boot, for which the solution is to
"uninstall" it.

Sorry, I have no answer for Windows Defender's discovery of this phantom
driver.

Dean-Dean,
Thanks for your time. Yes my PC is a Dell laptop. I won't worry about
these Event Log entries. Again, tks for your assistance.
