System Event Viewer

After applying Service Pack 4 I cannot view the Event
Viewer System Log. It opens and says there are 4000 events
but they don't show up in the viewer pane. I hit refresh
and that does not correct. One of the servers is our PDC
so this has become a major problem. Enyone else
experancing this problem????

That is exactly what I'm getting and I can't read any of
the system log events on our PDC. This is not good.

See similar post thread "Event Viewer Issues" dated Sep 24
2003 4:36PM. There a "dcdon" describes the issue as being
caused by a "lesser known infection." The exact infection
I would like more detaisl on.... (After all I try to
always practice Safe Surfing and never do so without the
latest protection.)

Don't get sweaty palms...
Seems you have an infection...
Use Symantec to run a virus scan
The one online...
Here...
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

(watchout for wraps...if so copy and paste the entre URL into address bar)

If it finds reminants of virus like IRC-BackDoor.FLOOD, like a file example
pseexSEARCH.txt, it is in most all cases okay to delete, but if I were you,
I would find the entire removal procedure and do itline by line. These
things are getting smarter everyday.

Look to see which files are infected, do a Google search, get these fixtools
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html

I have just experienced this within the Application Log on
my Win2k Server. At first I see the System Log populated
with numerous events. But clicking on Application Log
shows "#### events" in the header but no events are
actually listed below. Then clicking back on System Log
now shows "0 events" and no listings. Going back to
Applcation Log next shows "0 events" and no listings. I'm
beginning to get swetty palms...
