System Error-Can't logon to my PC.

Hi All,
I' having a problem with my pc.Can't logon.Whenever I try
I get an error message with the title:lsass.exe - System
Error. The message therin is: "When trying to update a
password, this return indicates that the value provided as
the current password is not correct".
I don't know what to do. I was going to re-install XP, but
then, how do I save the (valuable)stuff on my C drive?
