System Disconnects

My dialup connection disconnects on it own after anywhere
from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. I can not download ay
updates from microsoft as I always get disconnected
trying. I have talked to my ISP and they say the problem
is on my side. My wifes computer does not have this
problem using the same ISP. I have had this problem for
the last couple of months. I run Nortons System Work and
antivirus and they show no problems. I can not restore my
system to a previous date as no matter what date I try to
restore to I get an error telling me my computer can not
be restored to that date. Is there a log file or something
in XP home that might tell me why the disconnect occurred?
I hate to have to reformat my hard drive and start over
from scratch. Since I can no longer get any updates
completed or surf the net without having to reconnect a
half dozen times I am about at that point. Lastly my
system does not disconnect unless I open IE6. Makes me
want tro download that other browser you know the one just
to give it a try. I can dialup and not open my browser and
my system will stay connected. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks! Dennis
