system crash help WIN XP

help,lost power in house then rebooted comp. says file is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\config\system. says to run setup CD, but how do I get into
dos to read CD ? trying to repair file. have up to date anti virus and
firewalls plus router. rebooted several times ,thx steven

Hi there,

Are you getting a Blue Screen when this error appears and also is there a
CED on the end of where it says system? If so I might be able to help you.

That message indicates a problem with the registry. You'll need to boot
from the XP installation CD, enter the recovery console and follow the
steps in this article.

If there was a power loss there may be a chance of the file system being
corrupted henceforth the error you are receiving. Perhaps try a chkdsk /p in
recovery console to see if the file system needs repairing. If it reports
problems type in chkdsk /r to see if it can be recovered. If no problems are
found perform a registry repair using the articles provided by other posts
