system configuration utility - unusual entries

In my WinXP SP2 system configuration utility startup tab are four
items that I have disabled. I note now that the regedit startup key
for each of them starts right off at SOFTWARE; none of them has an
"HK" prefix, like all the active items. Is this because they are
disabled? (I'm reluctant to re-enable them and restart just to check.)
I hunted for the entries via regedit, and none of them appears
anywhere there.

TIA--

Hi larry,

Yes, they appear without the hkey data because they have been disabled. If
you go to:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg
and expand startupreg, the disabled items should appear there. Click on each
one and in the right-hand pane it will show the Data for the hkey

Thank you, Patti; that worked exactly as you described. I deleted two
keys that unquestionably were viral, and left two others that are
actually legit, just very irritating. (One is the Power Manager that
constantly interrupts and hangs the system for 3 to 30 seconds so it
can tell me how much battery life I have left... even when I'm running
AC. No amount of fiddling with its settings has managed to convince it
to shut up and do its job quietly.)
