I have a dell deminsion 8200 with windows xp home edition 2002. One day I
came in to use to have found it had rebooted itself. I figured micorsoft had
updated something. I went to start it up and it just kept blinking. Tried it
several times and the whole screen would blink. This happened on the welcome
page and the desktop page until it rebooted it self to the begining. I have
removed all software programs and reinstalled windows xp. I went out to
microsoft and downloaded all critical updates. When the service pack 2
finished installing and it rebooted after the black microsoft screen it goes
to a blue micosoft screen saying windows at the top and and says please wait
.. Then it tries to boot up windows and starts to blink at the welcome screen
until it gets to the dest top and then it does it there until it shuts down
and does it all over again. I removed all software and the only thing I have
downloaded at this point is Norton 2007. I have also done the the microsoft
malicious scan provided by their site. Would anyone have a clue as to why the
system is not accepting the service pack 2. It used to be there before what
every critical update occured.

well, i think that perhaps
you took too many steps
with your methodology.

utilizing your idea, i
would suggest to simply
reinstall your windows
with the cd you have and
"do not" install updates or
other software.

your system should run just fine
with your windows as is.

then see if you still encounter
problems with your computer.

if you do not, then make this
your baseline; whereas your
computer is stable and has no
updates, patches and third party
software added to the o.s.

now you can begin the process of
updating your o.s.. you should
pay close attention as to what
is being installed and if the
computer remains stable after
each addition.

on the other hand if the computer
crashes although it only has
your original windows installed
on it, then you might look into
the problem as resulting from
dysfunctional hardware.

as you can see, not having
installed additional software
makes the problem less
complicated.

I would also like to say I have not installed any printers. The system works
fine on the internet and will allow me to move about. If I turn on the
critical updates and it tries to download the sp2 this is where I have my
problem. The other problem is I can not install any of my software because
windows is outdated it states. I am at a loss. I have tried updating my bios
as microsoft suggested but I am afraid to get the same thing. If any one else
has expirenced this let me know. I will do a follow up if I have located the
problem to let others know....Thaks db for responding.

ok,

what you can do is to download the
stand alone sp2 file and save it
somewhere on your disk where
you can find it. then you can
manually install it via safemode:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en

incidentally, if you log into
safemode with networking your
modem will be allowed to function
and perhaps you can manually
download the above file as well.

when your computer becomes functional
again, do not install norton or any non
windows/microsoft programs because
you may have to redo everything. so
wait until everything is functional and
precautions can be taken.

later you should also think about
building yourself a windows cd
that has the sp2 integrated on it:

here are the sample instructions
for future reference:

I figured out the problem. Windows critical update loaded a update called
Nvidian N View. I had to install it through my hardware and then go to the
controll panel and hit system. Then go to device manager and disable it. I
did this all through the safe mode while interneting. My system works fine.
I am sorry though this was not something that Microsoft did not post. My
system worked just fine before this critical update was automaticaly
downloaded. Now I have to reinstall all my information. Just the luck of the
draw. It is fixed and happy........YEAH!!!!!!!!!! Hope this information helps
others that are having the same problem..

glad to know that
it worked for you....
