System all but frozen

Works incredibly slowly. In Task Manager, SYSTEM is stuck
at 100% of CPU usage. Shutting this down shuts down the
whole PC. I can start in safe mode but otherwise the
computer is too slow to even shut down. Numerous reboots
and resetting have not fixed this issue. Why is SYSTEM
taking up 100% of the CPU even with no programs running?

Theres a few issues this can be caused by.

One your processor is generating too much heat and is
trying to not overheat,

or you have a virus/trojan on your system thats a hidden
process,

go to start > run and type 'msconfig' without quotes,
check in startup tab and disable everything but your
internet client (if your on dsl, cable or broadband) and
restart, does it make the same problem?

If so run msconfig again and go to the services tab,
tick 'Hide microsoft services' and check there to make
sure there has been no new services added that you do not
recognise.

Its also best to do a Virus/trojan scan and an
adware/spyware scan,

If that doesnt work open up task manager and click the
Process tab, look at all the process's and see which one
is taking the most CPU usage, close it down if possible.

Hope this helps
good luck

Check your task list and find out what program specifically is taking CPU priority

End it

Do a full system Virus scan.
