The reason you cannot find the hal.dll file on your computer is likely to be
that Folder Options are set to hide important OS files. Open a folder or
Windows Explorer click Tools - Folder Options - scroll down and enable show
hidden files and folders and un-check hide Protected OS Files. Search for
Hal.dll now and you should find it in Windows\syatm 32 and in
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386.

"hal.dll" missing is a message often generated when the system is trying to
boot from a partition, or drive, which does not have Windows installed - but
a windows installation exists on another drive or partition. Generally if
the drive is not recognized or there is no OS installed a "no operating
system" is displayed.

Do a google search for the errow message you posted and go to the Kellys
Corner website - there is a lot of information there (I am too tired to post
it right now or even do the google search and get the link!).

Ok that answers one of my questions on how to correct the issue: windows
cannot open due to a missing or corrupt file:<windows root>system32\hal.dll
file.
my question is how do i log into windows to correct it, i am able to to go
to dos, and do commands. please respond.

thank you,
debbie (septmbrdeb)
