Sysprep problem with keyboard/mouse

After running sysprep (with switches -reseal -quiet -mini -pnp) on a Dell
gx520, I ghosted the PC. Then I turned on the PC from which I just created
the image, it brought up the sysprep mini-wizard and both the keyboard and
mouse are frozen.

This has happened several times. Unfortunately, I don't have another PC on
which I can dump this image to try it somewhere else.

Anyone run into this keyboard/mouse issue with sysprep?

Thanks...

Yes. Please tell me, why did Dell switch standard PS/2 ports with USB
ports? Why? Why?! Actually, this only happens to me on the GX280
models. When sysprep freezes up because I cannot use the keyboard or
mouse, I just power it down and back up. It always finds the mouse and
keyboard on the second "recovery" part of sysprep.

I have sysprep working fine on my GX270/GX620/GX520. Make sure your
OEMPnPDrivePath has \Windows\INF listed in its search path as I believe
that is where it is looking for its USB drivers.

Adam,

I discovered the problem. I thought I'd let you know -- along with anyone
else who encouters this.

Talking to a tech at Dell, I was told there are only a couple of USB ports
that work upon boot. The GX520 has 6-USB ports on the back. A column of four
ports and two ports next to them. You have to connect the keyboard into the
bottom USB port of the column of four and the mouse in the USB port to the
right of it.

Bingo! The keyboard and mouse work when the SysPrep mini-setup wizard appears.

Interesting. I recently took an image that one of our technicians made
for the GX520 and "hacked" it so it would work on a GX270. It took
about 2 reboots and 15 minutes (literally) to get it to recognize my
USB keyboard and mouse.

Just out of curiosity, was this in gold technical support chat via the
Internet or by phone? I find it nearly impossible to reach Dell by
phone anymore. Although, overall, I like Dell's tech support.
Whenever I need a part I get it air dropped next day with little fuss.

Adam,

I did talk to Dell gold tech support on the phone. He was very helpful...
