Sys Tray and Desktop icons appear then disappear help!

Hello,

I have a Dell Dimn 8400 with Windows Media Center Installed.
The other day I started having boot problems. The destop blinks at me
on boot up then disappears. All I have is the background image. I can
run programs using task manager, but when I try to run explorer.exe,
The system tray and icons appear for a split second then vanish again,
as does the explorer.exe task in task manager. I pulled the drive and
installed on a clean machine and ran a virus scan. Two were removed.
Adware/spyware scan also performed, with a few removed as well.
Installed the drive back into the Dell, but still getting the same
problem. I've also checked the shell key and it is there.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell=explorer.exe
Any chance of fixing this without a repair install? I'll have to
converse with DELL if so, I don't have installation CD.

Are you 100% certain the malwares are gone ? You can either post what
they and the ad/spywares detected were and/or recheck the system here :

sfc /scannow should be run afterwards to ensure system files are intact
