SyncToy...how accurate is it? Does it verify copied data?

Hi,

I love SyncToy. It has made my life soooo much easier. But, I have a question:

When I copy C:\Picture1.jpg over to D:\Picture1.jpg via SyncToy, does it
verify the data written?

If so, how accurately does it do this? I mean, does it take the easy route
out and just check file size, name, date and that's it? or does it do byte by
byte comparisions?

This is important cause I am developing a system to backup all my pictures
via SyncToy.

You have the option to have SyncToy check the file contents in addition to
the file size, name, and date by checking "Check file contents" in a folder
pair's options menu, and SyncToy's help file says that it uses the SHA1
algorithm to do so. Just keep in mind that hashing the files to verify that
they're identical makes the sync take longer.

Thanx for the fast response. Perhaps I didn't put the question in the right
way.

I want to know if Synctoy will verify that the copy was successful? It has
happened to me where I copied a picture to another drive and when I check it
after few days..there was an error in copying. So even though the file did
get copied, it was corrupt.

I don't want SyncToy to copy 100 gig worth of pictures and then I have to go
manually check if the files were copied acccurately and without corruption.

I'm sorry for the late reply. If you have the "Check file contents" option
checked, then you shouldn't have to worry. However, Synctoy creates a log
file that you can look at the see if there were any errors in the latest run.
By default, the log file (named "SynctoyLog.log") is located in a folder
called "SynctoyData" in your Documents folder. You can view this file in
Notepad.
