SyncToy 2.0 Beta: make include subfolder dialog expandable

Please consider making the Include Subfolder dialog expandable and do not
pre-pend the selected directory path to each item in the tree. The current
dialog is very awkward to use when syncing large folder trees that have long
prefix path names (e.g. "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My
Documents").

It would be better to just put the prefix as a label over the panel, and
list the subdirectories only (e.g. ".\My Pictures" instead of "C:\Documents
and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Pictures")

So you mean only the parent directory should display the full path name (or
just the first part), and any subdirectories should only show the part of the
full path name that they represent? If so, I agree. The subfolder selection
window is too cluttered as it is, and since its implied that subdirectories
are part of the parent directories, it's just redundant to repeat those parts
of the path name.

Yes, I think you have the idea I was suggesting. There are other commercial
and shareware sync tools that use a variation of this concept.

Thanks guys for the great suggestion. We'll look at fixing this for the final
release.

Ashish,
I wrote my own program to sync up my folders when deploying my
applications. But, I like the synctoy UI much better. But one
limitation that it lacks (at least I have not found a way to do
this). I have several "folder pairs" that I always want to run
together. I know that I could go to the "All Folder Pairs" window and
select the folder pairs that I want. But, it would be nice to set it
up so I could always run the same 2 or 3 folder pairs together.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The only we have today to do this is to use the SyncToyCmd.exe command line
wrapper in a batch file to run the multiple folder pairs together - albeit,
you wont be able to do a Preview and get any UI feedback with this.

We have had this feature request before where people want to be able to
group folder pairs and run those groups - unfortunately it keeps sliding down
the priority list in every release. We can look at it again for the next
major release but no promises.

Thanks,
Ashish

We can look at doing this if it's not too much work however at this point
we're only considering critical bugs for the final release so no promises :)

Thanks

Hi,

i also have installed the SyncToy 2.0 Beta, (XP sp2, US English).
For me the 'select subfolders' option is simply missing. I checked in the
help , where the screenshot shows this option, under the 'Folder pair
options'.
I have uninstalled, and installed it again, still the same.
Is it me who is doing something wrong or should go back to v1.4 for that
option?
Thanks in advance
Dezso
