SyncToy 1.2.0.75 (XP) Feedback

Hi,

Thank you for a very useful tool. Suggestions (in order of importance):

1.) [critical] There is no way to ignore a set of pre-defined extensions.
This is such a basic, useful feature, that I could not believe it when I
could not find it in the product (did I miss something?). When copying, say,
software development trees, there can be GBs of intermediate build files like
*.obj, *.sbr, etc. and all of those should be ignored (treated as
non-existing on a Left Folder). The "include" mask does not do the trick,
since it is impossible to predict all extensions that should be included, it
is only possible to predict all extensions that should be excluded.

2.) [critical] Files marked as read-only in a Left Folder are, naturally,
copied with read-only attributes to a Right Folder. However, when updating a
sync later on, SyncToy fails to overwrite modified files in a Right Folder
(cannot overwrite read-only files). SyncToy should switch the read-only
attribute off, overwrite a Right Folder file, and re-apply the read-only
attribute.

3.) [unexpected behavior] There is something going on with file names and
folder names including non-English characters, but under English (U.S.)
version of Windows XP. Characters are either changed around on a target drive
(Iomega Rev, UDF file system), or there are
"*.url_SyncToyBackup_20060731225558906" files created with some file name
characters replaced. Not sure if this is by design.

4.) [minor] There is no way to rename a folder pair.

5.) [minor] There is no way to change Left Folder or Right Folder (browse)
for a folder pair.

6.) [cosmetics] Upon startup, SyncToy should open the last selected folder
pair, or allow for automatic selection of the "All Folder Pairs" tab, so that
"Run All" can be executed right right away.

All in all, a very useful tool. Please address points (1.) and (2.) above as
soon as you guys can, it would be a big break.

Regards,

G.

I would like to add to this list. When running synctoy manually, I get a
results screen that lets me know what failed, what worked etc. However, when
scheduling the tool, those logs don't seem to be available anywhere. There
should be some results screen that stays up to let you know what happened, or
else a way you can access the results of the most recent syncs for each pair.

Actually, this item should read [critical] instead of [unexpected]. When
using English (US) Windows XP, but non-English characters in a file or a
folder name, that file or a folder might not get replicated >>at all<<. When
combined with the "sync" option (as opposed to "echo"), original (Left
Folder) files are actually DELETED, since those are not found in the Right
Folder. Quite dangerous.

Thanks...
