Is there a free program so that i can backup my digital camera pictures to a
USB HD ?, here's the scenario:

I download all my digital camera pictures onto my hard drive in the PC
immediately the same day i take the pics then wipe the memory card.

I have a 40Gb USB Hard Drive (external) on which i back up the pictures.

I backup from PC to external USB drive usually at weekly intervals (i.e. not
on a very regular basis)

I put my pics into an array of different yellow folders (e.g. "Holidays",
"Xmas", Misc" etc etc). So i need a program in which i can select a folder
on my PC and a folder on the USB HD and be able to click a button to
"backup" only the pics not already on the backup USB HD. I.e. not have to
copy and paste (and overwrite !) the pics already backed up on the USB HD,
if you catch my drift ?

Is there such a program ??

Kind Regards
Andrew

Karen's Replicator. (That's the answer to most backup questions.)

Fwiw;

The OP is asking for a sync proggie which synchronizes. I'm not
familiar with Karen's but I'd thought it was more of a backup solution.

For sync programs...I've tried Allway Sync but gave up on it after it
decided that I'd copied too many files (allwaysync.com). Easy to use
tho. Currently, I'm using Unison (www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/).
And it's a weird choice for me:

1) Development has stopped
2) Support, well, has stopped
3) Not much of a community that I can find
4) Pretty basic gui, very basic feature-set

What's really nifty about it is that it's a fast & intelligent algorithm
and works:
- across platforms
- quickly w/o much overhead
- across networks
- can use ssh

It ain't pretty but, it's a keeper.

Thank you all ! - i tried SyncBack and found that it was perfect for what i
wanted, so i stopped there. Nice and simple !

It backs up those files that are older or not existent in the
destination folder (it that's how you tell it to work) - so it'll
synchronize two folders if you set it up to do that.
