Dave

Just looking for some input as to preferences on directory sync
programs.I hear a lot about Syncback here(recommended,that is)but I was
looking at some others and wondered if anybody had any comparison
experience to relate. Right now trying JFileSync
http://jfilesync.sourceforge.net/ and like its options. What about
Microsoft's SyncToy?? Always trust this group for some decent advice

Had lots of problems with this myself, and have now settled on Allway
Sync from http://www.allwaysync.com, which I picked up from this group.

No problems at all, very pleased with it, web-based support is good
from my experiences, and it has tonnes of options... more than SyncToy.

Thanks james .The options are what I like in JFileSync. I'll give Allway
a look

Hi again,

Just wanted to update this thread...

Allway sync suddenly started warning me I was "overusing it" for
"normal" use, and advised that if I continued using it, it would
cease working, and that I should pay for the Pro version.

I've now uninstalled it, and have gone back to Karen's Replicator,
which although lacks all the bells and Whistles, at least it doesn't
threaten you... :-(

Funny that...

I'd set up Allway Sync to synch/backup at shutdown (win2k). Very
convenient. Last night, 'puter refused to shutdown...it was Allway
telling me that:

I'd backed up more than a normal user for their free version and urged
that I get their pro. Pity. Off comes Allway.

Update: I found the "you've used this too much" message from Allway.
Measurements indicate usage in excess of typical personal
requirements. Please consider obtaining the Pro version of Allway
Sync.

The adjoining statistics:

Files copied past 7 days: 133
Files copied past 30 days: 13,372
Files copied since install (approx 2 months): 29,959

From their Allway Sync Free licence agreement:
Customer agrees that Allway Sync Free has certain limitations, that
these limitations may change over time without notice or obligation
on the part of Developer. Currently, these limitations allow Customer
to synchronize no more than 20000 files per 30-day period.

I'm inferring that the 20,000 file sync count mentioned in the license
does not refer to the "files copied" listed in their stats. I've
contacted them to let them know why I'm uninstalling. Btw, it's
interesting to go to their website and see the very limited "support"
offered. In this day and age...no forum, no on-line expanded doc...

If anyone's interested I'll post their response.

Just curious - what's so much better (aside from the usage limitation)
in Allway over Karen's Replicator? I never tried Allway, but I get
the feeling that it can save on shutdown (which wouldn't interest me).
Anything else?

I forget why I chose Allway over Karen's. What I like about Allway is
the interface is pretty easy to master and the save-on-shutdown is
exactly what I was looking for.

Other than that...<shrugs>.

There are a lot of "extras" in allway, like being able to set
folders to be "ignored" etc.

Shame, but I for one would be interested if you do hear from them.

Thanks
