Sync Palm to Outlook 02

Martin

I saw that someone has already posted this problem on
8/21/03, but since they have yet to get a response, I
figured I'd post again:

Just upgraded to Outlook 2002. Now, when I sync my Palm I
get a message from Outlook saying that "A program is
trying to access your email addresses. This might be a
virus, do you want to allow?" or something like that. I
have to allow the program each time. I would imagine
there's a security setting somewhere in Outlook, but I
can't find it. I have also searched the help files and
the MS Knowledge Base. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Try updating your Palm software.

That sounds like your Internet security/firewall software
talking. Obviously, there will have to be a connection
with your Outlook address book if a successful synch is
to occur, so the event you are being warned about is
benign in this case. I have Norton Internet Security
installed, with middle-range security set, and that is
almost exactly the sort of message it gives me when there
is activity to connect to an application or data on the
protected system. If you are seeing that sort of warning
too frequently for activities you approve of, your
security software settings may be too conservative.

You would think that it would make sense for Outlook to
let the user choose which programs can and can't have
access to its address book. And this isn't a firewall
problem. We're talking about a sync to a local machine,
not to an Outlook Exchange server, etc. Palm software is
already updated to latest version without having to
purchase anything new. Thanks for your help, but I'll
just revert to Office 2000, which worked just fine. I
don't see much worthwhile new in Office 02 anyway.

Regards.
