Sync Issues: Outlook 2003

D

DougV

Every time that I start Outlook 2003(cached mode), I
receive a message in a folder called Sync Issues (which I
assume was created because I upgraded my Exchange2000
account). Until now, I've never had any messages show up
in this folder, but now it happens every time with a
message similar to this:

13:39:51 Synchronizer Version 11.0.5604
13:39:51 Synchronizing Mailbox 'DougV'
13:39:51 Synchronizing Hierarchy
13:39:52 Synchronizing server changes in folder 'Inbox'
13:39:52 Downloading from server 'shrs-
exchange2.shrs.nt.pitt.edu'
13:39:52 1 view(s)/form(s) updated in offline
folder
13:39:52 Synchronizing local changes in folder 'Deleted
Items'
13:39:52 Uploading to server 'shrs-
exchange2.shrs.nt.pitt.edu'
13:39:52 11 item(s) deleted in online folder
13:39:52 Downloading from server 'shrs-
exchange2.shrs.nt.pitt.edu'
13:39:53 Error synchronizing folder
13:39:53 [80040119-501-0-5C0]
13:39:53 The client operation failed.

The link within the message seems to point to a work-
around for Outlook 2000, and all the steps on that page to
remediate do not work. I've renamed my .ost file to have
it recreated by outlook... I've renamed esm*.dll files and
re-installed completely... for nothing.

This problem isn't just annoying, it hints that something
it wrong, and I have no idea how to fix it. Someone who
knows anything about Outlook 2003, please... give me some
kind of guidance here.

Doug,

I found some information that says you might encounter this problem if your
Outlook profile has problems. Just to verify this, can you tell me what's in
the "Mailbox mode" box under:

1. On the Tools menu, click E-Mail Accounts.
2. Click Next.
3. Select Microsoft Exchange Server, and click Change.
4. Click More Settings.
5. Select the Advanced tab.

So, does this problem occur if you:

1. Exit Outlook.
2. <rename> any existing .ost files
3. Create a new Cached mode profile using the Mail control panel.
4. Start Outlook (and let it synch with a new .ost file for the new profile)

Thanks

I've tried renewing the .ost file by renaming it, and
starting outlook again allowing it to download the
settings, but to no avail.

It says under Mailbox Mode
Outlook is running in Unicode more against the Microsoft
Exchange Server

Might there be any way to set it back to ANSII? or is that
only possible if I delete my exchange profile and recreate?

Doug,

Please make sure you create a <new> Outlook profile using the following
steps. Having a new .ost file created with the original profile does not go
as far as creating a new profile with a new .ost file.

1. Exit Outlook.
2. <rename> any existing .ost files
3. Create a new Cached mode profile using the Mail control panel.
4. Start Outlook (and let it synch with a new .ost file for the new profile)

Also, are you still seeing the same sync error you originally reported?

Thanks,

The error still comes up every time I load Outlook if it's
in Cache mode.... I had tried what you suggested earlier
about renaming it, and recreating everything anew, but it
still does the same thing. Now my work machine has
started getting the same errors, and only if it's trying
to Sync with the Exchange server. None of my coworkers
(all who have exchange accounts as well) have any of the
same problems. It's only my account specifically. The
only recourse it seems now, is to delete my exchange
account (after backing it up of course) and seeing if
creating a new account will allow me to stop getting
errors.

Doug, I had a similar issue and mine corrected itself
after I switched on "Use Cached Exchange server mode"
under Advanced options, off line usage (OST on/off)
section.
