Sync Center not working, period

I've installed Vista Ultimate over XP Home, and am having a problem with Sync
Center. It doesn't work. It doesn't do anything.

I have the Sync Center icon in the notification area of my Start bar, but
neither double-clicking it nor right-clicking and choosing "Open Sync Center"
(or anything else from that context menu) does a thing.

It just sits there, silently.

I have no devices to sync, so I'm not even interested in using it, but the
icon is there and I assume there's a service running as well.

Any idea why nothing happens, and if there's any way I can just remove the
thing until I ever need it?

Many thanks!

I had sync center show up in the notification area in one of the early Beta
releases but not since then. Run msconfig and on the startup tab see if
it's checked, If so uncheck it. You can get to the Sync Center from Start
| Control Panel.

Not only is it not checked on the startup tab, it isn't listed as a service
at all. Grr. Could it have a name I just don't recognize? There's nothing
even beginning with "sync."
