SWITCHING FROM OUTLOOK EXPRESS TO WINDOWS MAIL?

C

Chrissy

Hello......can anyone help a poor stupid woman please?

I bought a new laptop yesterday and haven't got a clue how to receive/pick
up emails that are essentially going to my old laptop! I used to receive
them in Outlook Express, but have discovered that that doesn't exist any
more. I have read some of the help files, but like a lot of things.....it
doesn't seem to work for me....ha ha.

If anyone has the time and patience to read my ramblings can I please
explain. My email address used to be (e-mail address removed) and I still
recieve emails to that addy in Outlook Express. When I terminated BT
Broadband and then subsequently rejoined they said I couldn't have the same
email address as it was already in use (?) and issued me with
(e-mail address removed) which I pick up via Yahoo. Where I get confused is
that all my chrissy51 stuff turns up in Outlook and Yahoo, but the chrissy33
only goes to Outlook. So basically I get a lot of emails twice so to speak.

I suppose common sense would suggest ditching the chrissy33 completely, but
I need to tidy it up first by informing certain people of my new email
address......hence why I need access to it. So please, if you aren't
completely confused by the above, can anyone tell me how (in the simpliest
of English please) to get this Outlook Express moved to this laptop. Thats
if you "can" of course! I did try a wizard but that was asking for POPS and
SMTP ????? but then suddenly I get a message in the inbox, which has
fortunately enabled me to contact yourselves, but heaven knows which one of
my email addresses it is linked to.....if any? Sorry I am such a dumb dumb.
I just hope if someone replies, I can get back into this to pick up the
message!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kind Regards ~ Chrissy

You can set up Windows Mail exactly as you had OE set up. Just add your
accounts as you did before with the same user names and passwords and server
numbers. Then you can get your old messages from the old machine into
WinMail as well. See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx and the section on WinMail.

First go to Windows Update though and update your version of Vista, so you
won't encounter as many bugs.

On the Outlook PC, look at Tools - Accounts and take note of your email
setup (I believe this to be your Chrissy33 account - by the way, NEVER post
real, complete email addresses in these posts, "X" part of it out). Get all
of the info from all of the tabs. Then on the Vista PC open Windows Mail
and go to Tools - Accounts and add the account there using all of the same
info you just noted from the Outlook PC. Windows Mail and Outlook settings
will be the same.

The Chrissy51 account can be setup the same too, just substitute Chrissy51
for Chrissy33 in the setup screens.
