Hello,

I connect my laptop to the internet in two ways:
At work, I plug it to the ethernet lan and connect through the company
router.
At home, I connect it to my desktop using a Firewire connection and
Internet Connection Sharing.

The problem is that windows doesn't make the switch automaticaly and I
must reconfigure the whole thing using the Network Connection Wizard.
The network connections themselves are fine (DHCP is ok, Cable is
plugged and so on).

Is there a way for windows to sense the active connection, or, at
least, for me to choose the current connection through which windows
should connect to the internet.

thanks,
Jonathan.

If you use DHCP on both sites, it should work. If you are talking about domain/workgroup name this may help,

I am using DHCP on both sites. and when I run "ipconfig /all" i see
that the IP address and all other parameters are correct but Windows
doesn't switch to the connected network interface unless I use the
Network Setup Wizard.

I am not sure the issue. posting the both results of ipconfig /all may help.

Hi
An inexpensive (can be found for $10-$20) wired router at home would solve
your problem and would provide you with Hardware Firewall as a bonus.
Jack (MVP-Networking).

I have a wired router at home, my problem arises from the fact that its
connections are all connected, so I daisychain my laptop to one of the
connected computers through Firewire.

I know I could by a wireless access point or a bridge. but the problem
remains: How do I tell windows which network connection to use in order
to connect to the internet, the wired or the wireless.
